Surabaya itself is known as the City of Heroes, so there are also many places that contain the history of the struggle of the Suroboyo people during the colonial era. These places are still well cared for by the government and the people of the city of Surabaya. 1. Tunjungan Street
Tunjungan street is located in the center of Surabaya, which is located close to the center of the provincial and city government. This place is a silent witness to the struggle in the former Dutch colonial period. Many historical buildings are located along this road, making this place a tourist destination when people visit Surabaya. In addition, on this road there is also a hotel that is proof of the story of the Arek Suroboyo struggle to tear the Dutch flag, namely Hotel Majapahit. No doubt people who are exercising often stop to take pictures at one of Surabaya’s icons.
In addition, every weekend Tunjungan street often holds a car free day, so it is very convenient to exercise and run in this place. Even on weekends, hotels in the Tunjungan street area such as the Double Tree Hotel and Hotel Majapahit also open sales stands that provide a variety of food for breakfast. Now the Tunjungan street area has many cafes and places to eat so many young people hang out in this area. 2. Tugu Pahlawan
Tugu Pahlawan is one of the icons of the city of Surabaya. This place was built to commemorate the services of the heroes who fought on November 10, 1945. In the Tugu Pahlawan area there are many iconic photo spots such as the statue of the Proclaimer Ir. Soekarno and Drs. Moh. Hatta, the Heroes Monument park, Surabaya Zero Point and not to mention the Heroes Monument itself.
The Heroes Monument area will have many visitors on weekends because at that time there is a shock market which Surabaya people usually call TP Pagi. The market sells a lot of used clothes for those of you who like thrifting and also foods that can block your stomach while exercising.
3. Bungkul Park
Surabaya is known as the city of 1000 parks. So it’s not complete if you visit Surabaya without visiting the parks and one of them is Bungkul Park. Bungkul Park is quite spacious and there are many food vendors in the area behind it. This park is always crowded with visitors even 24 hours though. But unfortunately during this pandemic the park was closed so it wasn’t as crowded as usual. Even so, there are still many visitors who pass by to exercise in this park, especially on weekends.
4. Alun-alun Surabaya
The city of Surabaya recently had a square which was inaugurated on August 17, 2020. This square is located on Jl. Governor Suryo so that it is so close to the Grahadi State Building, Apsari park and Surabaya City Hall. Surabaya square is a new icon of the city of Surabaya so that the enthusiasm of the people who visit it is still very high. Even on weekends, if you want to just take pictures on a sign that says Alun-alun Surabaya, you have to take turns and sometimes have to queue first.
5. Thor Field
Surabaya residents have athletic fields that can be used for free, one of which is the Thor field. The Surabaya City Government has also equipped this field facility with an international standard athletic track. Before the corona pandemic attacked a lot of residents to the sports community who often practiced in this field. However, during a pandemic like this, the Thor field is still closed for an undetermined time.
